July // Ruby
July is here and it's time to celebrate this month's birthstone: the ruby!
Here are some facts you may not have known about the ruby:
1. The most famous rubies are found in marble, a metamorphic rock. These have rich red color and usually glow a bright red under sunlight. The glow makes the red color even stronger. Darker rubies are found in igneous rock.
2. Rubies from Burma have been around since 600 AD. Early Burmese warriors carried rubies to make them invincible in battle. They actually put the rubies under their skin. Ouch! We recommend wearing them instead! ;)
3. In gemology, only four gems qualify for the elite category of “Precious Gems.” These are the diamond, sapphire, emerald, and the ruby.
4. A ruby amulet, pendant, or charm is believed to bestow harmony, success, emotional balance, and contentment to its wearer.
